Woods greets fans on the green of the 18th hole in the second round

‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) set a record of passing the cut 24 times in a row in the ‘Masters Battle’ Masters.

Woods hit a total of 1 over par 145 through the second round on the second day of the 88th Masters Tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club (par 72, 7,555 yards) in Augusta, Georgia on the 13th (Korean time) at 8:20 AM. He is currently ranked in the top 20.

Although the second round is still in progress, the cut standard is expected to be 5 over par, so it is certain that Woods will pass the cut.

With this, Woods succeeded in passing the Masters cut for 24 consecutive competitions he has participated in, starting in 1997.

Woods, who has participated in the Masters since 1995, last missed the cut in 1996.

After that, he passed the cut in all 24 Masters he competed in. Among them, it reached the top five times from 1997 to 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019.

Woods, who had previously passed the cut 23 times in a row and was tied for first place in this category along with Gary Player (South Africa) and Fred Couples (USA), set a new record after playing 23 holes on this day.

The first day’s match started 2 hours and 30 minutes later than scheduled due to bad weather, so Woods played only the 13th hole in the first round.

Woods, who recorded 1 under par with 2 birdies and 1 bogey in 13 holes the previous day, had 2 bogeys in the remaining matches of the day and finished the first round with 1 over par 73 and a tie for 35th place.

In the second round, which lasted less than an hour, he traded 4 birdies and 4 bogeys for even par.

Woods, who was involved in a car accident in February 2021, had his schedule disrupted by bad weather at last year’s Masters and withdrew during the third round following a hole remaining in the second round, revealing aftereffects, but this year was different.

He recorded a fairway landing rate of 79% in both the first and second rounds of this tournament, and his green hit rate dropped slightly from 50% in the first round to 44% in the second round. The average number of putts when hitting the green decreased from 1.61 in the first round to 1.5 in the second round. 고스톱
