The ‘2023 Super Blue Marathon’ will be held at 8 a.m. on Sept. 17 at Peace Park Peace Plaza in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Organized by Special Olympics Korea and Lotte and hosted by The Dong-A Ilbo, the event is in its eighth year. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Sports Promotion Organization and supported by the Social Welfare Foundation.
The Super Blue Marathon was launched as part of the Super Blue Campaign to break down the boundaries between people with disabilities and people without disabilities. The Blue Campaign, which advocated for the use of terminology related to people with intellectual disabilities, expanded its scope to include all people with disabilities.
People with disabilities who want to participate in the event can apply for the Super Blue (5km) course. Up to four people with disabilities, including family and friends, can participate for free. Non-disabled people can participate in the half, 10 km, and 5 km courses. The entry fee is 30,000 won, but elementary, middle, and high school students do not have to pay. Singer Sean (real name Noh Seung-hwan-51), who is known as the “Donation Angel,” will participate in the event and run the Super Blue course alongside people with disabilities. Sean is an ambassador for the event.
