Expressing gratitude to ‘eldest sister’ Jeon Hoon-young for her dedication to the team
Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun (second from left) meets with national team players Nam Su-hyun (first from left), Jeon Hoon-young (second from right), and Im Si-hyeon (first from right) to encourage them immediately after the awards ceremony for the women’s individual archery event at the 2024 Paris Olympics on the 3rd (local time).
Hyundai Motor Company Chairman Chung Eui-sun visited the national archery team’s “eldest sister” Jeon Hoon-young, who failed to win an individual medal, to encourage her and express her gratitude for her dedication to the team.
According to Hyundai Motor Company on the 4th, Chairman Chung, who is the chairman of the Korea Archery Association and the Asian Archery Confederation, visited Jeon separately after the women’s individual archery event at the “2024 Paris Olympics” held in Paris, France on the 3rd (local time). He visited her to console her for losing 4-6 to “national team ace” Im Si-hyun in the semifinals and 4-6 to France’s Lisa Barbelin in the bronze medal match. Out of the three members of the national archery team, Im took the gold medal and Nam Su-hyun took the silver medal, but Jeon was the only one who failed to win an individual medal.
Chairman Jeong visited former player Jeon and expressed his gratitude for encouraging and guiding the younger players throughout the competition, even though he did not win an individual medal. Chairman Jeong personally stepped forward to console former player Jeon, who may have been disappointed with the results.
For Jeon, this Olympics was more special than for his peers. He had not won any international competitions since winning two gold medals at the 2014 World University Archery Championships, so this was his first Olympics at the age of 30. In particular, he was selected as a national representative for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics four years ago, but the competition was postponed for a year due to the novel coronavirus infection, and he had bitter memories of not being able to wear the Taegeuk mark in the re-opened selection competition.
Born in 1994, Jeon is the eldest player, 10 years older than Lim, born in 2003, and Nam, born in 2005, but she did not demand special privileges as a senior and instead led by example. When the team was settling for accommodations after arriving in Paris, Jeon volunteered to “share a room with a table tennis player.” Since the accommodations are for two people per room, one of the three women’s team members had to share a room with a player from another sport, so she stepped up for the sake of her juniors. When the coaching staff asked, “Is it okay to stay with players from other sports for more than ten days?” Jeon replied, “I’m okay with my younger teammates being comfortable.” Jeon
also relieved the burden on her juniors by being the first runner in the team event. In the archery team event, 120 seconds are given per set. The three players must shoot two arrows each, a total of six arrows, within 120 seconds. If the first runner shoots the arrow faster, the other players have that much more time. Furthermore, in the women’s team archery final against China on the 28th of last month, the former player led the team to its 10th consecutive win by shooting 10 points five times.
The former player smiled brightly and said, “I feel relieved the most,” about the results of the competition. He said, “I personally had some regrettable results, but I am happy that the team achieved such good results,” and “I have no regrets because we worked hard without resting while preparing for the Olympics.” He continued, “It is true that I felt a lot of pressure as the eldest sister, but I feel great because we achieved our goal of winning the team event 10 times in a row.” Regarding her future plans, she said, “If possible, I would like to continue to represent the country, but the competition in Korean archery is so fierce that I think this Olympics will be the last major competition in my life.” She also emphasized, “I will continue to do my best in the future.” 바카라사이트
