Kang Ye-deok, at 102 years old, has become a sensation after participating in KBS’s “National Singing Contest.”
On Tuesday, host Nam Hee-seok shared a video of Kang’s performance on Facebook, expressing how it moved many to tears.
Dressed in a pink hat and floral pants, Kang confidently walked to the stage without using a cane and sang trot songs, “Jjillekkot (Wild Rose),” “The Rowing Virgin,” and “Tears of Mokpo.”
During the show, she shared her life story, 커뮤니티 revealing that she married at 17 and has lived in Hwasun, South Jeolla Province, ever since. Nam noted that she was born in 1922, making her five years older than Song Hae, the late host of the show.
Despite her age, she humorously responded to Nam’s request to return, saying, “If I don’t die, I’ll come back here again.”
Regarding her secret to longevity, Kang said, “I only eat rice with doenjang (soybean paste) and kimchi,” which made the audience laugh.
