Harry Kane (31-England) is known as the unlucky one. Since turning professional in 2011, Kane has become the second all-time leading scorer in the English Premier League (EPL) and England’s all-time leading scorer for the national team. He is considered one of the best strikers in the world, scoring goals with both feet and his head, as well as creating chances for his teammates.
For all his skill, Kane has never won a championship. He’s been close. At Tottenham, where he teamed up with Son Heung-min, 32, they were in contention for the league title with Chelsea in the 2016-2017 season before being knocked out by mid-table West Ham and finishing second. In the 2018-2019 season, the club reached the UEFA Champions League final, but finished as runners-up, losing 0-2 to Liverpool. Kane’s desire to win trophies eventually led him to leave Tottenham, where he had played for 12 years, for Bayern Munich in Germany ahead of this season. The Bavarians are Germany’s most dominant team, lifting the trophy every season. However, shortly after Kane’s arrival, in August, the team was thrashed 0-3 in the German Supercup against Leipzig. After winning the trophy in each of the previous three seasons, this season they lost the trophy as soon as Kane arrived. On February 2, they suffered an early exit in the DFB-Pokal round of 32, losing 1-0 to third division side Saarbrücken in the FA Cup.
There are only two trophies left for Kane. The German league and the Champions League. Munich won the league last season as well, extending their unbeaten streak to 11 games, but this season they are in second place. Coincidentally, his hometown team, Tottenham, has defied the odds to lead the EPL with Son Heung-min taking over as captain after Kane’s departure. “It’s good to see. It’s a bit of a strange feeling to see Tottenham without me,” he said, “but I’m focused on a new adventure.”
