Jesse Lingard spent the day after the league’s opening match on March 3 going for a brisk walk.
FC Seoul lost 0-2 to Gwangju FC in the first leg of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at Gwangju Football Stadium at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Seoul brought out a 4-3-3 formation. Cho Young-wook, Kim Shin-jin, Kang Sung-jin, Ki Sung-yong, Palošević, Han Seung-kyu, Kim Jin-ya, Kim Joo-sung, Kwon Wan-kyu, Park Dong-jin, and Choi Cheol-won started. Jesse Lingard waited on the bench to start.
“I came to Korea to take on a new challenge, a new chapter in my life,” Lingard said at his introductory press conference on March 8. I will do my best to bring joy to the fans in Seoul,” he said at the press conference.
After joining the club, Lingard traveled to Kagoshima, Japan, where he joined the Seoul squad and trained under head coach Kim Ki-dong. Lingard traveled to Gwangju with the squad as a bench player in the opening match of the 2024 K League on Feb. 2.
He was not named in the starting lineup due to his lack of practical experience. Before the match, head coach Kim Ki-dong said that Lingard was not feeling up to par and hoped he would not have to play.
Seoul conceded a goal to Lee Hee-gyun in the 20th minute of the first half and were unable to get back into the game as time passed. Eventually, Kim Ki-dong brought on Lingard for Kim Kyung-min in the 22nd minute of the second half.
Lingard even got a shot off right away. After receiving the ball near the box in the 23rd minute, Lingard fired a left-footed mid-range shot that sailed well over the crossbar. Lingard nearly recorded an assist in the 39th minute off a cross from the right side, but Ilyuchenko’s header was saved by the goalkeeper.
Seoul was unable to open the Gwangju goal in the end. Ilyuchenko’s header and Kwon Wan-kyu’s shot in stoppage time were both off target. Instead, Gwangju sealed the match with Gabriel’s goal off a corner kick in stoppage time. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for Gwangju.
Prior to this game, Lingard’s last official match was in April of last year, when 바카라사이트 he played for Nottingham Forest against his hometown club Manchester United in the 2022-2023 Premier League season, nearly 11 months after his last appearance.
After the game, Lingard posted a short reflection on social media.
